McKendree University is a little known college in near St. Louis. Like just about any other college, McKendree University was established quite some time ago and with so many years since its founding, the college has seen its seen its fair share of loss and tragedy. With all of the accidents that have occurred on this campus there are definitely some paranormal happenings going on throughout this campus. History Founded in 1828 by the United Methodist Church and originally known as Lebanon Seminary, McKendree University is the oldest college in the State of Illinois. On the main campus, it is said that a distraught student once hung himself in the bell tower. In the Alumni House, an elderly woman was killed when she fell down the stairs, and her husband hung himself in the building shortly thereafter. It is also rumored that a baby died of pneumonia here, as there was once a nursery in the back office. Present The Alumni House house continues to be plagued by the three spirits of the old lady, her husband, and the infant stricken with pneumonia. The old nursery where the infant died is said to be much colder than the rest of the house. Perhaps the most well-known and infamous site on campus, however, is the bell tower where unknown student killed himself. The spirit of this young man has been spotted on the upper floors. Another building on campus, Carnegie Hall, has been home to what investigators suspect are three different spirits. Televisions have been known to come on, or change channels. Eerie feelings and suddenly being grabbed have been reported. Second to ghost fanatics curiosity seems to be Bothwell Chapel. Again, no specific ghosts have been identified here, but paranormal activity has been witnessed. TVs have been known to come on or change channels.
